Emergency contraceptive pills (ECPs) often called the morning-after pill, are pills that can be taken after having unprotected sex to prevent pregnancy.

Back-Up is a high-quality, effective single-pill emergency contraceptive by MSI Nigeria Reproductive Choices that prevents or delays ovulation for up to 72 Hours. By then the sperms from coitus have died as they can only survive in the reproductive tract for about 72 hours (about 3 days).

How does Back-Up work?

The Emergency contraceptive pill contains a small amount of hormone that prevents pregnancy by providing crucial contraceptive back-up in cases of unprotected sex, rape, and contraceptive accidents such as forgotten pills or slipped condoms.

Back-Up prevents or delays ovulation by 5 to 7 days. By then, sperms from coitus in the woman’s reproductive tract die as they can survive there for only about 5 days.

However, it does not inhibit the implantation of a fertilized egg or cause termination of a pregnancy.

The sooner taken the better, ideally within 72 hours (about 3 days).

Is Back-Up effective?

Back-Up is effective if taken within 72 hours after unprotected sex to prevent pregnancy.

The effectiveness of Back-Up depends on when it is taken, so we advise you to take it as soon as possible after unprotected sex.
